Mr. Derrick Lamont "DJ" Berry Jr.

Derrick Lamont Berry, Jr., affectionately known as “D.J.,” was born to Sharee and Derrick Berry, Sr. on February 6, 2006. On Sunday, July 9, 2023, he transitioned from this life to join with loved ones resting in eternal peace. D.J. accepted Christ at an early age at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of former pastor Rev. Charles Easter. D.J. remained a member until his death. He received his formal education in the Magnolia School District. D.J. completed his junior year in high school and would’ve been a graduating member of the Class of 2024. He was so excited about going into his senior year with a goal of being fresh as ever for his high school prom with his Alexander McQueen shoes. D.J. was a very talented athlete who was an absolute beast when given the opportunity to showcase his skills. He helped lead the Panther track and field team to the Class 4A district and state titles this past season and led both the 100m and 200m relay teams to first place finishes in the Class 4A State Track & Field Championships back in May. D.J. was also able to establish a work ethic at the Boys and Girls Club as an Umpire for the age 8 and under baseball games. At the time of his passing, he was employed at Carter Brothers Sawmill. D.J. made a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He was a burst of fun, comedic, and positive energy. There was never a dull moment while one was in his presence. His teachers noted him as being a good kid and a joy to have in class. D.J. was very charismatic and respectful. His doting smile would light up the darkest rooms. He was the life of any party and he loved all music, his truck, friends, and his family. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Annie Chappel-Phillips; maternal great grandparents: Annie and K.D. Chappel and Mary and Coltis Franks; paternal grandparents, Stella Hildreth and John Avery; paternal great grandparents, Norma Daniels and R.J. Daniels; uncle, Roderick Franks; and aunt, Ni-Jer Gray. Those left to cherish beautiful memories of D.J. are his loving and devoted parents, Derrick, Sr. and Sharee Berry; one sister, Tylaa Berry; grandparents: Charles and LaSaundra Franks, Lonnie and Shirley Berry; and Dorris Harris of Houston, TX; devoted aunts: Jennifer Franks of San Antonio, TX, Amanda (Tony) Fuentes of Ft. Worth, TX, Crystal (Henry) Burton and Christie Franks, both of Magnolia, AR; Charmaine Wafer of Little Rock, AR, Shirley Berry of Village, AR, Shema (Reginald) Ross of Dallas, TX; LaTonya (Ronald) Hewitt of Kansas City, MO, LaDonna Berry of Magnolia, AR, and LeKesha Hempfield of Houston, TX; devoted uncles: Christopher (Jennifer) Franks of Taylor, AR, and Anthony Berry of Village, AR; special aunts and uncles: Laura Chappel, Betty Ann Chappel-Wright, Loretta Blake, Laura Johnson, Louis Wade-Hildreth, Charles Chappel, John David (Tanika) Chappel, Tommy (Maria) Chappel, Jerome (Sandra) Blake, Marvin (Angie) Blake, Douglas (Teresa) Daniels, Anthony Daniels, Joyce and Coltis Franks, and Wilmer (Joe) Daniels; special friend, Jayci Hanson; and a host of loving cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, July 15th, 2023, at Columbia District Auditorium (Youngblood Auditorium) in Magnolia, Arkansas at 3:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Kings Hill Cemetery in Magnolia, under the direction of R.L. Reed Funeral Home, LLC. Visitation will be Friday, {July 14th} from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m., at R.L. Reed Funeral Home in Magnolia, Arkansas. “Masks are Encouraged but Not Required While Attending the Services or During Visitation Hours.” However, wearing masks ensures safety for you and others.
