Mr. John Louis Smith

Reflections the Wonderful Days and Life of Brother John Smith “For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.” Psalm 90:4 On the day of April 22, 1968, in the city of Galveston, Texas, a son, John Louis Smith was born to the union of Arthur James Smith and Myrtle Strickney who preceded him in death. “In the morning it flourishes and grows up: In the evening it is cut down and? John was baptized at an early age at the Church of Christ of Galveston, TX. He later moved to Beaumont, TX and joined with the Beaumont Church of Christ. When he moved to Magnolia, he joined Shady Grove Baptist Church under the direction of Pastor Jerry Darrett. He then joined the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the direction of Pastor W.C. Tims and Pastor George Barnes, where he served as a deacon. John grew up and attended the public school system of Galveston, TX. He completed his education at Ball High in 1986. He spent most of his adult life in Beaumont, Texas, before moving to Magnolia. John was a kind and caring person. He cared for everyone. He was willing to help anyone who was in need. He loved to go fishing and spending time outdoors. “He who finds a wife finds a good thing…..” Proverbs 18:22a (NKJ) During one of his in-state deployments he met his good thing. John united in holy matrimony to Julia Darrettt on December 31, 1999. John proudly fathered two lovely children and was responsible for the rearing of many other children including a bonus son. “I must work the works of him that sent me while it's day: the night come, when no man can work.” John 9:4 John joined the Army where he received many military honors as a Field Artillery Gunner and later a Military Police Officer. He served in numerous in-state deployments. John retired from the Army in 2005 and began working at CMC Steel. He obtained his certification as a boiler operator. He worked as a licensed boiler operator at Amfuel until his health declined. John’s work, life and time on earth were finally completed on January 24, 2025. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; Revelation 21:4a John leaves to cherish memories and to celebrate his days and life, his daughters: Jessamyn (Tyler) Garrett of Springdale, Arkansas, Johnelle Smith and Jeremiah Furlow both of Magnolia, Arkansas. 1 Grandson, Tyler Garrett Jr. 1 sister Krystal Miller of Hooks, Texas, 2 brothers Anthony (Pam) Smith and Geno Williams of Beaumont, TX. Birth mother, JoAnn Davis. John will be remembered by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, coworkers and friends. Celebration of Life services will be held Monday, February 3rd, 2025, at Unity Church of Magnolia in Magnolia, Arkansas at 1:00 p.m. with Military Honors, under the direction of The United States Army Honor Guard and R.L. Reed Funeral Home, LLC. A visitation will be held Sunday {Feb. 2nd}, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., at R.L. Reed Funeral Home in Magnolia. A final viewing will be held before services begin, so please govern yourselves accordingly. “For precaution due to the COVID-19, Masks are Encouraged but Not Required While Attending the Services and During Visitation Hours. However, wearing masks ensures safety for you and others. Thank you.”
