Ms. Shamekia LaCole Roy

Shamekia LaCole Roy, lovingly known as Mekia, MeMe, and “Miss Piggy,” was born on November 21, 1981, in Magnolia, Arkansas. On February 2, 2026, she transitioned from this life, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, strength, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family. Shamekia was many things to many people — a devoted mother and grandmother, a loving sister and aunt, and a cherished friend. Above all, she was a mother whose life revolved around her daughters. Everything she did was guided by her desire to see them protected, prepared, and provided for. She worked tirelessly to ensure they had not only what they needed, but also what they wanted, instilling in them a strength that will live on for generations. A proud graduate of Magnolia High School, Class of 2000, Shamekia later continued her education by attending Southern Arkansas University, where she pursued her academic goals for a period of time. She valued learning, growth, and self-improvement, and encouraged those same values in her children. Throughout her life, Shamekia was a dedicated and hardworking woman. Her professional journey spanned several service-oriented fields, including healthcare, administrative support, and public service. No matter the role, she approached her work with integrity, reliability, and a strong work ethic, always striving to provide for her family. Known for her loving yet no-nonsense spirit, Shamekia had a presence that filled every room she entered. She was strong, outspoken, funny, deeply nurturing, and faith-filled — the kind of woman who spoke truth in love and stood firm in her beliefs. Her faith was evident in how she lived, how she loved, and how she showed up for others. Shamekia found joy in cooking meals that brought family together, listening to music, attending church, reading, and journaling. She had a rare gift for making people feel heard and understood. Many who mourn her have shared that she was a sweet soul— always a listening ear, always ready with wise advice, and always willing to help others navigate life’s challenges. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles Allen, Isaiah Cooper, Annie Mae Gilkey, George Gilkey Sr., and Charlie Walker; her brother, Derwin Roy Jr.; and her beloved niece, Ky’Leigh Franklin. She leaves to cherish her memory and uphold her legacy her daughters, Shakamree Roy and Soleil Stumon; one precious unborn grandchild, already deeply loved and eagerly awaited; her grandparents, Bobbie Jean Walker and Nora B. Roy; her parents, Angelice Davis, Raymond Gilkey Sr., and Derwin Roy; her siblings, Eureka Gilkey, Raymond Gilkey, Pavia Gilkey, and Terrence Roy; her nephew, Brent Franklin; along with a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones whose lives were forever touched by her presence. Her greatest legacy is the strength she poured into her daughters, the love she gave freely, and the countless lives she touched simply by being herself. Though she is no longer physically present, her spirit, lessons, and love will continue to guide those who were blessed to know her. Shamekia LaCole Roy will forever be remembered, deeply loved, and truly missed. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, February 10th, 2026, at 23rd Psalms Cemetery in Magnolia, Arkansas at 1:00 p.m., under the direction of R.L. Reed Funeral Home, LLC. Visitation will be Monday, {Feb. 9th}, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at R.L. Reed Funeral Home in Magnolia, Arkansas. “For precaution due to the COVID-19, Masks are Encouraged but Not Required While Attending the Services and During Visitation Hours. However, wearing masks ensures safety for you and others. Thank you.”
