Mrs. Varlene Smith - Young

Varlene “T-Niney” Smith-Young was born on August 16, 1956, in Willisville, Arkansas, to Ms. Cassie Blake and Mr. Birtheen Smith. She attended Oak Grove High School and graduated with the Class of 1977. At an early age, Vearlene accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a devoted member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Willisville, AR. Varlene worked for many years at Columbia Sewing in Magnolia, AR, and Carpet Cushion in Prescott, AR, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. Those who knew Varlene would describe her as feisty, strong-willed, and full of life. She had a big personality, a generous heart, and a spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. On Saturday, April 26, 2025, Varlene peacefully made her transition from labor to reward at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cassie Blake and Birtheen Smith; four brothers— George Banks, Jerry Smith, Charles Lambert, and Terry Smith; four sisters—Mae Ella Smith, Dorothy Smith, Paulene Smith, and Murline Smith; and two nephews—Danny Payne and Jerry Smith Jr. Varlene leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Truman Young; five sisters— Darlene Young of Magnolia, AR; Annie Smith of Fairview, TX; Alfredia Smith of Willisville, AR; Bobbie Smith of Dallas, TX; and Cathy Smith of Waco, TX; and two brothers—Bobby Smith of Trotwood, OH, and Rickey Smith of Camden, AR; five stepchildren — Lashanda Fears of Texarkana, AR; Dawn Fears of McKinney, TX; Bridgette Robinson of Magnolia, AR; and Katrina Fears and Bobby Young of Waldo, AR — eleven step-grandchildren—as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will forever remember her vibrant spirit and unwavering love. Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, May 10th, 2025, at R.L. Reed Funeral Home Chapel in Magnolia, Arkansas at 2:30 p.m., with burial to follow at St. Peters Cemetery in Willisville, Arkansas, under the direction of R.L. Reed Funeral Home, LLC. Minister Felton McKinney, Eulogist. Visitation will be held Friday {May 9th}, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., at R.L. Reed Funeral Home in Magnolia. “For precaution due to the COVID-19, Masks are Encouraged but Not Required While Attending the Services and During Visitation Hours. However, wearing masks ensures safety for you and others. Thank you.”
