Mr. Jesse Lee "Tex." Smith

Jesse Lee “Tex” Smith was born February 27, 1937 in Lisbon, LA to Monroe Smith II and Leaner Johnson Smith. He was the last of the seven siblings born to that union. He had nine brothers and sisters – Inez, Essie, Terence, Addie, Monroe Jr., and Odell preceded him in death. Jesse spent his early years in the Patton Town Community of Lisbon where he grew up and attended school. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and joined the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Lisbon. He later moved to Magnolia, Arkansas. He joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He also worked diligently for Leon Shultz and family in various capacities for many years. He united in marriage to Zilmarie Austin and to their union three loving sons were born, Floyd, Dwayne, and Jesse. They later moved to Galena Park where Jesse worked for Coastal Transport. He was lovingly called “Tex”. He had a passion for horses which he owned and trained. He was a longtime member of the South Side Riders Club and The Arkansas Trailblazers until his health failed. He enjoyed the many trail rides in the Ark-La-Tex. He had a love for playing golf and dominoes and was very competitive. He was respected by many in the community (young and old), due to his generosity, his fun-loving spirit and straight forwardness in all conversations. He was the real deal. He kept it 100!! He leaves to mourn his passing his children: Floyd P. Smith (Doris) of Houston, TX; Dwayne L. Smith (Sandra) of Los Angeles, CA; Angela Smith Richardson (Michael) of Dallas, TX; Jesse F. Smith of Houston, TX, Jessica Smith of Clearlake, TX; two grand-sons: Justin Smith of Houston, TX, Rodrick Deams of Houston; six grand-daughters: Taylor Smith of McAllen, TX; Lyric Smith of Houston, TX; Michaya Richardson of Houston, TX; Neajur Smith, Saniea Smith, and Aaliyah of Clearlake, TX; one great-granddaughter: Jasmine Deams; one brother, Rev. Tony Curtis Smith of Magnolia, AR; two sisters: Elizabeth Smith of Magnolia, AR and Willie Jean Riley of Ruston, LA ; cherished nieces: Annie Ruth Dunn and Alma Jewel Butler; beloved nephew: Alfred Flanigan; and his little buddy/niece: Alexis Smith. He was loved and honored by a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 3rd, at 10:00 a.m. at R.L Reed Funeral Home Chapel, in Magnolia, AR, with burial to follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Lisbon, LA, with military honors. Under the direction of R.L. Reed Funeral Home, LLC of Magnolia, AR. Officiating will be Rev. Tony Smith. Visitation: Friday 4-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
