Mr. Roy Lee LaGrone

Motto: “I Won’t Complain” Philippians 2:14 Roy Lee LaGrone, affectionately known as “R.L.,” was born September 30, 1943, to the parentage of Evelyn Williams. He peacefully transitioned from this earthly realm on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at his home in Stamps, Arkansas. As a child, R.L. spent a considerable amount of time with his grandparents, Mariah and Lee Eldridge. He attended Foster High School in Lewisville, Arkansas. After graduating, R.L. attended Southern State College (presently known as Southern Arkansas University). He was drafted into the United States Army and served his country from 1967-1969. R.L. fought in the Vietnam War—where he was critically wounded when a Viet Cong rocket hit the barracks where his company was housed. His sheer bravery during that time resulted in him being a recipient of the Purple Heart, Medal of Honor, and other prestigious military awards. R.L. was a “jack of all trades!” After returning from Vietnam, he became a substitute teacher for the Lafayette County School District. He worked in this capacity for several years. Later in life, he gained interest in becoming an Insurance Salesman in which he proved to be very successful. He sold insurance for many years. He rededicated his life back to God and became a member of Greenville Missionary Baptist Church in Stamps, Arkansas. He was a very faithful and trustworthy Deacon. When R.L.’s health failed him, he would still faithfully participate from home. R.L. was a great and honest man. Even if you didn’t want to hear the truth, he would give it to you—unapologetically. Out of the many accolades and accomplishments that R.L. LaGrone achieved, the one he was most proud of was being the father of his only son, Darrin LaGrone. When Darrin would enter his presence, his eyes would beam with pride. He was so proud of his loving and respectful son. R.L. would help anyone in need. He was a friend to all and a stranger to none. He was often seen around town taking people to their doctor’s appointments, running general errands, and transporting them to any other place they needed to go. He never accepted payment for the services rendered to anyone. He lived by the motto, “I won’t complain.” Anytime someone would ask him, “How are you?” His response would be, “I ain’t gonna complain.” R.L. is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Williams; maternal grandparents, Mariah and Lee Eldridge; wife, Brenda LaGrone; daughter, Yolanda Martin; and sister, Mae Ella Jordan. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and cherished son, Darrin (Sanaida) LaGrone of Little Rock, AR; stepdaughter, Cynthia (Anthony) Starks; nine grandchildren: Antonio (Natasha) Martin, Julius (Brittany) White, Jay Goodwin, and Josh Goodwin, all of Dallas, TX; Ricky Gulley of Texarkana, TX; Adara LaGrone, Blythe LaGrone, Seraeh LaGrone, and Nevaeh LaGrone, all of Little Rock, AR; three sisters: Deborah Williams and Sue Alphard, both of Wilmer, TX; and Lue Ella (Don) Thomas of Stamps, AR; a very special and loving sister, friend, caretaker, confidant, and nurse who selflessly cared for him no matter the time—day or night—Luella Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly. Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, September 21st, 2024, at Greenville Baptist Church in Stamps, Arkansas at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow with Military Honors at Lakeside Cemetery in Stamps, under the direction of the United States Army Honor Guard and R.L. Reed Funeral Home, LLC. A visitation will be held Friday {Sep. 20th}, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., at R.L. Reed Funeral Home in Magnolia. “For precaution due to the COVID-19, Masks are Encouraged but Not Required While Attending the Services and During Visitation Hours. However, wearing masks ensures safety for you and others. Thank you.”
