Dr. Sterling Evans Blackman

Dr. Sterling Evans Blackmon was born November, 24th, 1961 in Camden, AR to Charles Blackmon and Robertine Ames-Blackmon. He departed this world on February 4th, 2018 at the age of 56. He graduated from W.W. Samuel High School in 1980 in Dallas, TX. and Capella University, in Minneapolis MN. with a Doctorate degree. He served in the Army and was a member of the following organizations: NAACP, AZAR Foundation, Inc., RD Foundation, Devine Diva and Don's, American Legion, Old Skool Car Club, Northern Illinois Food Bank Drive Committee, Good Morning Shout Team, Booker Washington Center Fundraisers Committee, Special Olympics for Summer Events, Rockford Association of Minority Management Committee and with Illinois State Representatives Latesha E. Wallace and Chuck Jefferson. Servanthood: Deacon, Usher, and Worshipful Master (Welcome Star Lodge 36) He worked at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Illinois where he retired and later settled in Texarkana. Dr. Sterling Evans Blackmon was proceeded in death by his parents. To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife: Deloris Blackmon, two sons: Montreal Blackmon (Vickie) mother Lola Caldwell; James Catrell Williams (Jacqueline), and one daughter Lisa Alicia Smith (Paul), and, one brother Rodney Blackmon, one sister Charlotte Allen (Charles), nephew Anton DeNard Allen and niece Gabrielle Simone Allen, grandmother Frances Hill and uncles Tyrone Ames and Jackie Dean. In addition, mother-n-law Annie Mae Smith, brother-n-laws Harvey Smith (Tanya), Charles Smith (Barbie), and Dennis Smith, sister-n-laws Shay Dixon (Michael) and Jean McDaniel (Eddie Lee), niece Latren Tooks, god-sister Elvera Moreland, special friend Ida Millor, a host of nieces and nephews and a loving dog named, Blaze. Celebration of Life will be held Friday, February 9th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethany Baptist Church in McNeil, AR. under the direction of R.L. Reed Funeral Home, LLC of Magnolia, AR. Officiating will be Rev. Terry Kelley with Dr. Norris Flannagan, Eulogist. Visitation: Thursday, February 8th, from 1:00-4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
