Mr. Jacob "Jay" Murphy

Jacob Murphy, the son of John Murphy and Viola Moore Murphy is making his last stop in Emerson, Arkansas to be laid to rest with his family that preceded him in death. Along with his mother and father, he had 7 brothers and 4 sisters that he will be joining in heaven. Their names are Sophia Steppes, Auzzy Fraiser, Ethel Allen, Gurthie Shoulder, Bessie Cruise, Moses Murphy, William Murphy, Troy Murphy, R.C. Murphy, K.C. Murphy., Joseph Murphy, and Luther Murphy. Jacob is a native to Emerson, Arkansas where he attended and graduated from McMittress High School. He leaves to mourn his only daughter, Eileen Collins, his only granddaughter, Ilissa Monet Collins, his brother, Milton Murphy, his sister-in-law, Lovera Murphy as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly. Jacob was employed by Ceco Steel Company in Denver, Co for approximately 15 years. It was this job that brought him to Colorado and made him fall in love with the mile high city, where he remained for the rest of his life. When I would visit him in Denver, he showed me several buildings that he helped build. There were very few places that we could go where people did not know him. I was very proud of his contributions to this beautiful city. Jay, as he liked to be called, was very well respected and loved. He was truly a social butterfly. He had a passion for music, and he loved to dance. Every person that he ever introduced me to described him as loyal, as well as a very kind and caring person with a heart of gold. People adored his simplistic nature and laid-back personality. He is truly an example of what I, his daughter, feels a father should be and I am proud to call him my dad. Although he was not perfect, he was perfect for and to me. Jay spent the last 6 years of his life in Hilltop Park Long Term Care Facility in Denver, Co where he attended church on a regular basis. The facility staff became his new family and built a great relationship with him. They gave him the nickname Big Jay. The other residents in the facility really took a liking to him as well. He was always happy to go to dinner and the activity center with his friends to watch movies, play cards and socialize. The nurses and staff were very sad when he passed away. I have received so many phone calls, e-mails, and texts from them telling me how much they are going to miss him. Jacob was memorable and made a positive impact everywhere he went. You never know what you have until it's gone, and when it is gone, you realize what you had. These few words are as about as close as anyone can get to begin describing one of the most precious angels God put on this earth. We will truly miss Jacob’s handsome smile and cheerful personality. Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, October 21st, 2023, at R.L. Reed Funeral Home Chapel in Magnolia, Arkansas at 2:30 p.m., with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Emerson, Arkansas, under the direction of R.L. Reed Funeral Home, LLC. Elder Kevin Murphy, Eulogist. Services will be live streamed: https://www.facebook.com/rlreedfuneralhome. Visitation will be Friday, {Oct. 20th}, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., at R.L. Reed Funeral Home. A final viewing will be held before services begin, so please govern yourselves accordingly. “For precaution due to the COVID-19, Masks are Encouraged but Not Required While Attending the Services or During Visitation Hours.” However, wearing masks ensures safety for you and others.
