Mr. Johnny Ray Robinson

Johnny Ray Robinson was born December 13, 1946, to the late Johnnie C. Robinson and Miss Gussie Mae Witcher (Robinson). He grew up a hard-working young man who helped his mother with his siblings. He never forgot his upbringing and visited his family often. He attended school in Waldo and was a proud Westside Tiger. After graduating in 1966, he held several jobs until he left Arkansas for California where he married the love of his life, Mattie M. Maxfield in 1969. He was a member of the Southside Church of Christ in Los Angeles under the leadership of Dr. Carl C. Baccus, Minister. Johnny Ray loved music and was always enamored with the thought of meeting his favorite musicians. When he moved to Los Angeles he held several jobs that allowed him to meet the very ones he liked most. He worked for LAX – one of the largest airports in the United States. In 1969 he met Bobby Blue Bland and James Brown. He later worked for The York Club where he met more celebrities like Jackie Wilson, LaWanda Page, Etta James, Junior Walker, and Richard Pryor. He also worked at the 1984 Olympics and met Nadia Comaneci and the great author, Alex Haley. At one point he held the highest-level security clearance in the nation. In 1968 his first daughter, Jacqueline Robinson-Hull (Anson), was born. Two years later through his union with Mattie his second daughter Constance Raquel “Connie” Robinson was born. His daughter Jacqueline blessed him with five granddaughters and one grandson: Diama Hull, LaShonda Hull, Arielle Hull, I’esha Hull, Alicia Hull, and Anson Hull, Jr. He would also boast of having over 10 great grandchildren. Johnny Ray was preceded in death by his father Johnnie Robinson, his mother Gussie Mae Witcher and his oldest daughter Jacqueline Robinson-Hull. Also preceding him in death were several brothers and a sister: Alvin Lee Robinson, Donald Gary Robinson, James Robinson, and Patricia Ann Robinson. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Mattie M. Robinson and his loving daughter, Constance Raquel “Connie” Robinson (James E. McDaniel). His grandchildren: Diama, LaShonda, Arielle, Iesha, Alicia, and Anson, Jr. His Son-in-Law, Anson Hull Sr., six grandchildren and over ten great-grandchildren. He also leaves his siblings: Billie Jean Willis of Michigan; Willie Robinson and Peggy Ann Robinson of Waldo; Dorothy Murray and Mac Early of Little Rock; Kenneth Witcher (Cornelia) of Georgia; Brenda Witcher and Everick Monk of Texas; Tim Robinson of Waldo, Alisha Witcher-Howell (Donald) of Magnolia; Sharon Robinson of Texarkana, Darryl Witcher of Waldo, and Donald Robinson of Texarkana. Two sisters-in-laws and one brother-in-law; Martha Ann Westbrook and Irene Michelle Smith of Waldo and Harry Lee Carter of El Dorado; He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, friends, classmates, and loved ones. Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, August 9th, 2025, at Westside Church of Christ in Waldo, Arkansas at 12:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Watts Cemetery in Waldo, under the direction of R.L. Reed Funeral Home LLC. Bro. Donald Howell, Pastor/Officiant. Bro. Juerga Smith, Eulogist. A visitation will be Friday {Aug. 8th} from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., at R.L. Reed Funeral Home. “For precaution due to the COVID-19, Masks are Encouraged but Not Required While Attending the Services and During Visitation Hours. However, wearing masks ensures safety for you and others. Thank you.”
